Matteo is an experienced senior consultant, evaluator, trainer, lecturer, and coach with over 25 years of expertise in the fields of international development, not-for-profit, and the private sector. His main areas of technical proficiency are state/institutions-building, governance, organizations/processes engineering, and capacity building, with core skills in evaluation and performance management, results-based management, policy/context analysis, and change management.
His innovative, interdisciplinary methodology seeks to integrate insights from the social, political, project management, foresight, and cognitive sciences.
Matteo holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Geneva, Switzerland, as well as a BA in Economics and a BA in Political Sciences from the University of Neuchâtel. He also has a Master in Public Management and Policy Evaluation (University of Geneva) and a Master in Advanced Developed Studies (The Graduate Institute, Geneva).
Matteo began his professional career as a researcher at the Laboratory of Applied Economics (LEA) at the University of Geneva. He then progressed to a senior consultant role at Ernst & Young Consulting in the Performance Management Unit. In 2004, he founded MAGI-STER Consulting & Evaluation, where he currently serves as the managing director and owner. Through this firm, he provides consulting and evaluation services to a wide range of clients, including governments, international organizations, and both local and international non-governmental organizations across Europe, Southeast Asia, Central Asia, and Africa.
Matteo is a highly sought-after lecturer and trainer, and is involved in several programs and institutions. At the Geneva Graduate Institute, he is the Director of the Strategic Project Management for Development (SPMD) program, the Head of the Executive Master in Development Policies and Practices (DPP) for African English-speaking countries, and a Research Associate with the Centre on Conflict.
